Spheres, Spheres, Spheres, Yeah!

I’m so excited to share this beautiful and easy craft that is too chic not to do! This craft is inspired by a tutorial from Hill Country Homebody and these beauties that you can find at places like West Elm (pictured below).

Everyone is just going sphere crazy in décor right now. I’ve seen them pop up all over the place but am too cheap thrifty a person to ever spend $15-$30 on wooden decorative spheres. But when I found a DIY version I was like, “Sphere Yeah!”

My first step was to gather my supplies at our local craft store. Each sphere takes two embroidery hoops (that equals four hoops in total since each embroidery hoop has a big hoop and a smaller one inside it). Our store had three different sizes per pack, so I grabbed two of those for about $10 total thanks to 50% off coupons! Then grab your favorite paint color (my choice was gold) and a paint brush. {You can see in the photo below I also had thumbs tacks. I ended up not needing them, so just disregard.}

Next you want to take apart each of the hoops so you have your four separate circles for each size.

Then you just start with the bigger outer hoops (since they have the expanding and tightening screws). I first interlocked the two hoops using the screws to secure them together and then slipped the other two hoops in, spacing them evenly. After they are all spaced, tighten up the screws so all the hoops stay in place. Do this for each size hoop.

Then, grab your chosen paint and paint brush and lightly brush on the paint. It doesn’t take much for this wood. Let them dry and then go crazy with placing these sweet little babies around the house.

I’m in love. They are so easy, but I think they produce a really high end look. To disguise the tightening screws, I just used them as the weight to keep them from rolling around. They just stay on the bottom, in the back, and you never know they are there! So go out there and try this!

PS – I’m having a gleeful day here in Virginia! It snowed and I’m off work. What says happy Friday more than that!?

  • […] Now right here in the middle, are some sentimental items. Starting in the upper left is a thrift store brassy vase with some bedazzled flowers, a set of owl candlesticks that I bought 75% off at World Market when I got the paper, more décor books (of course), the unity sand that Eric and I poured as part of our wedding ceremony, and the spheres I showed you how to make earlier.
