My 2014 Goals

Now, let’s really get this 2014 party started off right! I like to compile a yearly list of goals for the blog, our home, and myself. It’s not something that I am very strict with (as you can see in the 2013 goal recap) but it helps keep me motivated. Heck, it’s a list and I am a list girl – the kind who writes things down that I’ve already done just to get the satisfaction of crossing them off. So here’s to many crossed off items in 2014!

Blog Goals:

  • Explore and enhance my skills in Photoshop Elements by forcing myself to organize and edit all my photos in it for every post. No shortcuts or dipping back into the old way.
  • Master my new 50mm lens.
  • Make my site deeper and easier to find content by enhancing the menu and sidebars.
  • Submit a project at least once a month for features elsewhere.
  • Apply to 2-3 more ad/sponsorship networks.
  • Attend 2nd Haven Conference. (YAY!)
  • Bonus goal: Be a guest contributor….ahhh this is definitely happening. Details coming soon!

Home Goals:

Outside:

  • Kill all crabgrass and reseed back yard (it’s a mess – mainly because of our tree removal).
  • Powerwash backyard concrete patio and clean awning (or take it down?).
  • Create a beautiful entertaining space on back deck.

Inside:

  • Change out curtains, pillows, and rug in living room.
  • Add more pops of color to kitchen.
  • Replace all blinds in the house.
  • Add and style shelves in Mego Cave.
  • Make gallery wall in hallway.

  • Make new curtains in guest bedroom and recover headboard. Add artwork.
  • Paint jewelry holder in master bedroom.
  • Repaint master bathroom and add artwork.
  • Organize unfinished basement.

Personal Goals:

  • Keep doing my best.
  • Don’t compare myself to others.
  • Love yourself.

There it is – my guiding principles and list of the year! Those aren’t all the house things I have in mind but the major, unfinished stuff that needs to get done. Really, if all I do is organize that basement, I’d call it a win for 2014!

What are your goals/resolutions/lists/guiding principles of 2014?

  • I love making lists, too — and also add things to them after the fact just for the satisfaction of crossing them off! If it’s not written down, it won’t get done… pretty much without fail. I think your goals for 2014 are excellent, and I’m sure you’ll succeed!ReplyCancel

    • Yay fellow list maker Meg! There is something addicting about them! Thanks for the 2014 goal support!ReplyCancel

  • Your blog goals are definitely obtainable. I am so excited for Haven! The back patio at your house would perfectly hold a patio set. I would suggest cutting down the larger shrubs that you have to make the space look more open. You would lose privacy but I think it would look nice without the larger shrubs. For your lawn, make sure you have crabgrass and not wiregrass. If it is wiregrass, the only way to kill it is with Roundup. (I speak from experience.) πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

    • Thanks so much Paula for all the great advice! That’s a great idea about cutting down those larger shrubs. You are so right on that. Good idea on the grass too. I have no idea what kind of grass is, but I take you as the lawn and landscaping master with all the work you’ve done this year!ReplyCancel

  • GREAT list and I hope you accomplish them all! Haven’t made a list, but I need to…

  • Great list, Megan! I need to figure out Photoshop Elements. My in-laws actually it to me because it came with the computer they just bought and I installed it about a month ago, took one look at it, and went back to using Picmonkey. I know it would probably make my life so much easier once I figure it out, but getting the motivation to do that is the problem. I’m adding this to my 2014 goal list πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

    • Thanks Jena! Yeah, it definitely is a little intimidating. I just need someone to sit down and walk me through it and share their tricks. Wouldn’t that be nice? But I must suck it up and learn it!ReplyCancel

  • Megan-you and I will learn Photoshop together this year!!!!ReplyCancel

    • Sounds great Beth! Any ideas on where to start or good resources?ReplyCancel

  • Great Goals! Can’t wait to see it all happen ~SonyaReplyCancel

  • Wow Megan, I could have written those blogging goals myself! I can’t wait for Haven again and seeing all of you. Happy Week.ReplyCancel

    • How funny Kathy! We will have to check in with each other throughout the year!ReplyCancel

  • What a wonderful way to stay on top of it all Megan! I love your goals, personal, household, blogging…all of them. Really would love to get to Haven again this year but but it’s right in the middle of our family’s annual HHi getaway. boo!
    I’ll miss seeing blogging buddies.ReplyCancel

    • Oh bummer Therese! We will definitely miss you at Haven! We go to Hilton Head too…usually the week of July 4th. How fun!ReplyCancel

  • I’m a list girl too! Only problem is I have too many of them at one time! They are everywhere. πŸ˜‰ I need to get more organized with mine. πŸ™‚
