Merry Christmas to all you wonderful people out there. I’m sending you big, sloppy, wet kisses!

Move over Katy Perry, Megan Rapp went to Vegas. But this is an altogether different Vegas story – one that I am willing to share all over the intra-webs. For this girl what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas. I’m bringing it all out here. I’m bringing it to you because it is beautiful, inspiring, and just fun!

las-vegasLet’s back up a little. A couple of months ago Eric’s work asked him to go to Vegas to do work at their company headquarters for a few days. I heard that and saw a great opportunity for me to tag along ! As non-gamblers and non-drinkers, Vegas was never on the top of our travel list, but we always thought it would be fun to visit. The stars aligned and we were able to combine a little business and pleasure trip (except there was no business for me – except for the business of having fun!).

So what did these non-gamblers do in Vegas? We walked a lot and looked at everything. It was a strip of eye candy in the biggest and most outlandish way. I loved taking it all in. Add in the Christmas décor and it was heavenly.

Walking around outside was literally night and day. Vegas has a very different look during the day compared to its fluorescent nights (my preference) but both were stunning in their own ways.

Here was the strip on a gloriously warm and clear December day.

las-vegas

las-vegas

las-vegasNow here it was at night with its lights shining at their best.

las-vegas

las-vegaslas-vegas

las-vegas

As a grand finale on our last night we treated ourselves to the famous Bellagio light show that was made even better with it being choreographed to a Christmas song!

las-vegasAlthough Vegas is renowned for its grandiose exteriors, the interiors of these hotels definitely held their own – especially with the added Christmas decorations. I don’t think I could tolerate Vegas except at Christmas now that I have been at this time. It seemed to just add extra glitz, glam, and sparkle everywhere – and you know that this girl ohhhed and ahhed over that like crazy.

las-vegas

las-vegasLooking past the seasonal decorations, I couldn’t help but admire the incredible architecture and design of the buildings. Oh the ceilings (that looked like the sky) and their adornments. The ceilings!

las-vegas

las-vegas

las-vegas

This ceiling was by far my favorite. It was made of glass sculptures, and I could have stared at it for hours!

las-vegasPlus the themes of the hotel were over-the-top and just so much fun to experience!

las-vegas

las-vegas

That was our whirlwind trip to Vegas full of walking (and walking and walking – in my fashionable boots no less ’cause  apparently I’m that girl and it’s a fashion parade on those sidewalks) and craning my neck to take it all in! How about you – ever been to Vegas and care to tell me about it?

  • What a fun trip! I’ve never been to Vegas but would like to see it someday. The art glass ceiling is something else!ReplyCancel

    • Thanks Paula! Isn’t that glass ceiling just amazing?! I had a lot of fun in Vegas. Just a couple of days was long enough but it was worth the visit!ReplyCancel

Ribbons got you tangled up? Do your packages end up looking like a mangled mess? Or do you skip the wrappings and just fold over a brown paper bag and staple it? Sometimes Christmas wrapping can be quite the chore and a little overwhelming. This year I decided to cook up some alternate ways to wrap presents. No potential paper cuts with these ideas! They are also reusable and adorable all on their own.

Non-Traditional Wrapping Option #1: Sharpie Mug

creative-wrapping-sharpie-mug-11

My first non-traditional wrapping method started with Sharpies and a Dollar Tree mug. I’m sure all your Pinning people out there have seen multiple mugs out there doodled and baked. I’m adding my own to the mix and making it not only a personalized mug but also a delightful way to send a little present to someone you love.

creative-wrapping-sharpie-mug-11

All I had to do was figure out what I wanted it to say, doodle it a few times on paper and then (nervously) start in on the mug. Perfection is not the goal. The goal is to create a one-of-a-kind gift for someone you love.

Non-Traditional Wrapping Option #2: Painted Jar

creative-wrapping-painted-jar

My second idea started with another Dollar Tree gem: a glass container. Pretty on its own but I wanted to umph up the color factor (and the hiding ability factor). I decided to go teal. I brought out my teal acrylic paint and gave two coats to the inside of the jar.

creative-wrapping-painted-jar

Then, just to add a little more color and pattern, I glued a ribbon around the lid.

creative-wrapping-painted-jar

Now you can hide pretty little baubles inside!

creative-wrapping-painted-jar

So there you go – pretty way to hide gifts without the paper! Really, it’s like two gifts in one since the container is a gift itself!

What non-traditional wrapping methods have you tried? Ever been that person who wraps a box in a box in a box….? I love doing that! But it’s definitely way more fun for the giver than the receiver. Oh the eye rolling as they keep unwrapping. I can’t get enough!

Sharing this post here:

  • I love both of these ideas! I am probably one of the few people who hasn’t tried to Sharpie art on a mug project. My hubby could do some really neat art for gifts.ReplyCancel

    • Paula, I’m intrigued! Is your husband a really good artist? That’s awesome! Maybe a guest post in the future?!ReplyCancel

  • I don’t trust my handwriting enough to pull off a pretty mug like yours, but I love the idea! The jar is super cute, too.ReplyCancel

    • Thanks Meg! I didn’t trust my handwriting either but I thought I would give it a shot. Just practice a few times before making the dive! You can do it!ReplyCancel

  • Megan, what a cute, easy idea! I could even see pouring candle wax in there and making your own decorative, scented candle!!! I’m inspired!! 🙂

    Serena @ Thrift DivingReplyCancel

    • Oh I love that idea Serena! That would be adorable! Oh the options are endless!ReplyCancel

  • Great ideas for a sweet gift, so much inspiration!
    Blessings,

    • Thank you Cindy! I had some gifts that wouldn’t fit in my boxes so I made myself think outside the box! 😉ReplyCancel

This past Thanksgiving weekend I was lucky enough to be able to sneak away for a couple of days to spend time with two of my closest friends from college. Since we are living all around the country, we picked a place that was accessible to all of us but was also fun, different….and close to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater home. So for three blissful (although sometimes unexpected and eventful) days we called this little cabin in the woods our home.

cabin-in-the-woods

My style is by no means country but I could have moved into this place in a heartbeat. It oozed charm, comfort, and coziness – all which create such an inviting home.

The entry was had a beautiful snow wall and other natural touches.

The bathroom was updated but still artful.

This was my bedroom. Who knew I could love quilts and bear lamp shades? But I did in this room.

cabin-in-the-woods

The open living space was spectacular. I drooled over that stone fireplace all weekend. Plus  we got to make glorious fires and roast marshmellows over it.

cabin-in-the-woods

I also love how updated and modern the kitchen was with some country touches.

cabin-in-the-woods

The little nooks and crannies and window seats really won me over.cabin-in-the-woods

The second bedroom was in an open air loft. Have I ever told you I am such a sucker for lofts? I LOVE them. I always wanted one in a house. I remember house hunting with my parents as a kid and if a house ever had a loft I loftily informed them that this was the house we were going to buy.

This charming loft even had a window seat. Sold.

We loved spending every second we could in the cabin but also took some time in the Acme, PA / Ohiopyle State Park area – namely Fallingwater.

[Insert a three hour delay for my lovely Cube getting stuck on an icy road in the back roads of Pennsylvania. Told you – unexpected and eventful. Met a lot of the neighbors – both nice and interesting!]

Fallingwater was inspiring, breathtaking, minimalist, and ahead of its time. Unfortunately I will just have to relegate you to Google Images or the multiple TV specials about it since only outdoor photography is allowed. However, I will blast your brain with a montage of outdoor pictures.

Now here is my favorite thing I learned: Frank Lloyd Wright invented carports! Yup! The owner wanted a garage but Frank (since we’re on first name terms apparently) wouldn’t build it. He said that they just invited clutter, and he wouldn’t have it in his minimalist design and mindset (oh to be like him in that way!). Instead he created a carport. Isn’t that so cool?

That basically sums up my little whirlwind trip since you probably don’t want a summary of the hours upon hours of girl chat that happened. Hope you enjoyed checking out this little cabin in the woods! If you would like to rent it out – you can! It is an Airbnb cabin that I highly recommend.

    • I’m soo bad at things like this but I would probably say between 1000-1200 square feet?? But it was definitely enough space since it was laid out so well!ReplyCancel

There’s nothing better to cure the winter blues than a hot bowl of chili. However, for us vegetarians we have to be a little bit more creative when it comes to chili. Thankfully I have found the BEST chili out there – it’s actually sweet potato chili that I adapted from this recipe.

sweet-potato-chili

Ingredients

  • 1 large chopped  sweet onion
  • 6 – 8 small/medium sweet potatoes – peeled and cubed
  • 1 large diced zucchini
  • 1 can of black beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes
  • 2 – 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 T of chili powder
  • 1 T cumin
  • 1 t salt
  • 3 packets of concentrated vegetable broth
  • Water

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a crock pot. Fill up crock pot with water. Cook on high until sweet potatoes are tender (usually 4ish hours). Use more of the spices to flavor to taste.

I love to make this during the holidays – especially when company is coming. It’s always hot and ready and non-vegetarians will eat this up in a heart beat! It also makes a ton so you have leftovers for days (that’s my favorite kind of meal)!
